Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel launched 5G service in India about a year ago. Jio and Airtel 5G service was launched from Delhi on 1 October 2023. Today, after a year, Jio and Airtel 5G network has reached most areas of the country, but now Jio has taken a U-turn on 5G network expansion. Airtel has already made it clear that it will strengthen the 4G network before the 5G network. After Airtel, Jio has slowed down its 5G network expansion. Why the progress of 5G network slowed down?
The reason for the slow speed of Airtel’s 5G network can be understood, because Airtel’s 5G network is based on non-standalone network. Meaning Airtel’s 5G network is best on its 4G mobile towers. In such a situation, Airtel will first have to strengthen its 4G network. But this is not the case with Jio. Despite this, Jio has slowed down the speed of 5G network. Actually, it is believed that Jio may not spend money for 5G network as compared to Jio 4G. Meaning if the number of people doing 5G recharge from Jio is less. In such a situation, the company is focusing on commercial use of Jio 5G. On the other hand, it is strengthening the 4G network for consumers.

5G expanded in view of demand
Considering the demand for 5G, both Jio and Airtel telecom operators will expand their networks. Jio wants to upgrade its 4G users to 5G. According to the data of the first quarter of financial year 2025, the number of Jio 5G users is 130 million. The userbase of Airtel is 90 million.

Jio has a large user base

Jio spokesperson says that when it is seen that 5G is being liked, then 5G network expansion will be accelerated. At present, Jio 5G covers about 90 percent of the Indian population, which is much more than Airtel.
