This state visit by Mr. Biden to France, the first since his arrival at the White House, will be marked by a formal welcome of the American presidential couple by the French head of state Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron at the Arc de Triomphe, with the traditional descent of the Champs-Elysées with the Republican Guard, a lunch at the Élysée and a banquet in the evening at the presidential palace.
During this visit, the two leaders will discuss a series of issues linked, in particular, to security, before the G7 in Italy, then the NATO summit in Washington in July.
The two heads of state must also make announcements on cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, the energy transition and nuclear energy.
This trip by the American president to France began on Wednesday with the ceremonies commemorating the 80th anniversary of the landing, organized in Normandy and Brittany, in which many heads of state and government and war veterans participated.
Mr. Biden’s visit will end on Sunday in Aisne where he will lay a wreath at the Bois Belleau American cemetery, in tribute to the soldiers who fell during the First World War.
Remember that President Macron made a state visit to the United States at the invitation of Joe Biden at the end of November 2022. This was his second state visit, after that in 2018.
