According to a report on the British Sky news network today (Tuesday), the technology giant Microsoft plans to fire about 11 thousand employees, thus cutting 5% of the company’s workforce. The layoffs come after similar announcements in a chain of layoffs at giant US companies, such as Amazon and Meta (Facebook).
The company currently employs 221,000 people, 122,000 in the US and 99,000 around the world. Last October, the news website Axios reported that less than a thousand of the company’s employees from the various departments were laid off.
The company is scheduled to report its quarterly results on January 24.
