Jørgen Watne Frydnes will be the new head of the Nobel Committee – Altinget

Jørgen Watne Frydnes (39) takes over as head of the Nobel Committee after Berit Reiss-Andersen. He will also become the committee’s youngest ever leader.

Watne Frydnes has been a member of the Nobel Committee since 2021, according to NTB.

He currently works as secretary general of the freedom of expression organization Norsk PEN, a job he has held since October 2023. From 2011 to 2023, he was the general manager of Utøya and was responsible, among other things, for the reconstruction of the island after the terror in 2011, writes NTB.

The Labor Party’s candidate, Gry Larsen, also joins the committee as a newcomer.

The Nobel Committee’s other members are Asle Toje, Anne Enger and Kristin Clemet. The members are elected for six years at a time.
