Chinese official media reported that former Chinese Foreign Minister Chen Gang, who was suddenly removed from his government post last year and has not appeared in public since then, has submitted his resignation from Parliament.

The official Xinhua News Agency reported that Chen’s resignation as Tianjin’s representative to the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress, China’s highest legislative body, had been accepted.
The former Foreign Minister was dismissed only 207 days after taking office last July, without giving any explanation for the decision.
Chen was replaced by veteran diplomat Wang Yi, who previously served as Foreign Minister and preceded him in the Chinese government hierarchy.
Beijing has not yet provided any justification for Chen’s dismissal or his absence from public appearances. The National People’s Congress, China’s parliament, is scheduled to hold its annual session next week.
