London: Jose Butler named captain of England ODI and T20 teams Butler will replace Owen Morgan, who retired from international cricket yesterday, as captain of the England white ball team. Butler was the vice-captain under Morgan.

Buttler will captain the side in the first match of the T20 series starting on July 7 after the Test against India. The England squad for the T20 series against India will be announced tomorrow. Butler said it was an honor to take over the captaincy from Morgan. Butler responded that he had a lot to learn while playing under Morgan and that Morgan was a player-inspired captain.

Butler has led England in nine ODIs and five T20I matches before being officially dismissed. Earlier, Test captain Joe Root stepped down and England replaced Ben Stokes. Stokes and Butler are rare players in England’s three formats with separate teams for Test and white ball cricket.

The T20 World Cup in Australia later this year will be a major challenge for the 31 – year – old Butler. Butler’s goal is to retain England’s title in next year’s ODI World Cup in India.

It is reported that the players of the team that played in the first match of the T20 series against Ireland will also play for India. Buttler, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, will be playing against his captain Malayalee player Saunju Samson in the IPL.
