Independent journalist José Luis Tan Estrada reported that he was “interviewed” and threatened by State Security agents, identified as Cristian and Laura.

During the interrogation, which lasted almost two hours, the agents accused him of being “moving towards crimes of mercenarism and propaganda against the government” under the protection of the new Social Communication Law imposed by the regime.

The journalist, a collaborator of the independent media CubaNet, reported that the agents showed special concern for his journalistic work and the social aid he carries out, pointing out that he had become “the face of the counterrevolution” in the province of Camagüey.

The repressor Cristian, who has been involved in previous arbitrary arrests against the journalist, showed a file with all his publications and mentioned the alleged existence of witness statements, although he did not present them.

During the meeting, the agents “suggested” the journalist leave the country using his passport, insinuating that it would be best for his well-being, as one of their pressure measures against journalists.

They also linked him to the director of Cubalex, Laritza Diversent, and university professor José Raúl Gallego, both well-known defenders of human rights and freedom of expression, urging him to distance himself from them due to their “aggressive behavior against the country on social networks.” ”.

Furthermore, they accused the journalist and the activist, Lara Crofs, of carrying out their social aid activities not for genuine reasons, but with the purpose of “degrading society.”

Despite the threats, the communicator made clear his firm commitment to continue his journalistic and social aid work. Through a statement, he stated that he will not stop doing journalism, highlighting his determination to continue advocating for the freedom of political prisoners and helping those most in need in his community, despite the persecution of the dictatorship.

“My pen and ink will always be at the side of ordinary Cubans, showing their reality,” said the journalist.
