The suspensions granted by federal judges against the reform of the Judiciary finally took effect, after weeks of disrespect and snubs from the Chamber of Deputies, Senate and the Presidency of the Republicwell the INE became the first authority to announce that it respects the brake on the popular election of judges, magistrates and ministers.
Yesterday, the president of the National Electoral Institute (INE), Guadalupe Taddei, confirmed that the organization of the judicial election is paused until the issues are resolved. judicial suspensions and challenges in the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF).
In a press conference, he reported that at least 140 notifications have arrived at the Institute from federal courts with various orders that prevent it from exercising the constitutional order to carry out the elections of judges, magistrates and ministers, whose election day is scheduled for June 1, 2025.
The president advisor asserted that they will abide by the resolution and “if this is definitively suspended it will have to be abided by, but at this moment we are waiting for the resolutions to arrive and provide the necessary corresponding effects.”
In this regard, the federal judge Martha Magaña, who issued the first provisional suspension against the judicial reform, overtook 24 HOURS that the INE must comply with all suspensions and, if it does not agree, it can resort to means of challenge before collegiate courts, but not wait for a decision from the Electoral Court to analyze whether to continue with the organization of the elections.
“If these suspensions that had been notified to this authority of the INE, it considers that they are illegal and invade powers, or any other grievance in which the president of the INE is sustained, it would necessarily have to combat them or render them ineffective through a resource that provides for Protection Lawand this would be the complaint or the appeal for review.”
Without challenges before collegiate courts, the judge said, the suspensions remain firm, since otherwise it would be contempt, “the rape to a suspension and the commission of a crime.”
In this regard, Taddei expressed that the General Council has respected the provisional suspensions that have ordered it to stop the electoral process and indicated that the route of challenge before the Electoral Court of the Judicial Branch of the Federation for being the maximum authority on the matter.
Taddei He said that he hopes that in the coming days the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF will resolve the appeal they filed and explained that so far the Commission Tracking to the judicial election nor have coordination meetings been held with the Judiciary and the Senate.
The counselor pointed out that these elections have stages that require technical decisions, such as defining the required budget, so if the pause is extended the Institute would enter into difficulties for the organization.
“I answer without ambiguity, we are in the status of respect for notifications, that is not ambiguous, it is a fact, we receive notifications and we are respecting them, but we are also waiting for the Court’s resolution (…) if you want to call it suspended, you can call it suspended, what I am saying is that we are waiting for the judicial resolutions,” he said.
The president advisor clarified that the Institute activities In other matters they remain in force, such as the organization of the 2025 local elections.
Regarding the new powers that were assigned with the approval of the secondary laws of the judicial reform, such as the direct appointment of the heads of Executive Directorates, Taddei He rejected that it was a gift from Morena and allies, since he said that the previous presidents of the INE have also been identified with a political group, but the electoral body will maintain its collegiality and will continue with the organization of elections in a professional manner.
