The Armenian Greco-Roman youth wrestling team is participating in the under-17 world championship in Rome, the capital of Italy.

The KGS Ministry reports that among the representatives of Armenia, Gaspar Terteryan in the 60 kg category had a successful competition and reached the finals. In the qualifying round, he won 9:0 against the representative of the USA, in the 1/8 finals he gained a 2:1 advantage over the Kazakh wrestler, and in the quarter finals he was stronger than the representative of Turkey with a score of 8:0.

In the semi-finals, the Armenian wrestler wrestled with Iranian Hossein Mirshekar and won 5:1, securing at least a silver medal. Terteryan’s opponent in the final will be the French representative Lucas Lo Grasso.

Among the representatives of Armenia, 71 kg Ararat Varderesyan will fight for a medal.

Varderesyan gained a 12:3 advantage over the Iranian wrestler at the start, in the 1/8 finals he won 6:0 over the representatives of Finland, and in the quarterfinals over the representatives of Japan (10:1). In the semi-finals, Varderesyan was defeated by an Azerbaijani wrestler and will fight for the bronze medal.

Among the representatives of Armenia, 48 kg Tigran Galstyan was also close to winning a medal. The latter defeated the Kyrgyz representative with a score of 5:0 in the consolation match, and competed with a Kazakh wrestler in the fight for the bronze medal, where, however, he was defeated by a score of 3:5.

65 kg Andranik Sedrakyan suffered a painful defeat in the consolation wrestling, being deprived of the opportunity to fight for bronze.

The other representatives of Armenia – 45 kg Samvel Khachatryan, 51 kg Armen Gevorgyan and 55 kg Hayk Ludvigyan – suffered defeats in earlier rounds and were left out of the medal fight.

Freestylers will start the fight from July 29. Armenia will be represented by Arman Harutyunyan (45 kg), Hayko Gasparyan (48 kg), Narek Hakobyan (51 kg), Aren Serobyan (55 kg), Vladimir Azaryan (60 kg), Narek Nikoghosyan (65 kg), Razmik Epremyan (71 kg). , Papin Hunanyan (80 kg) and Varuzhan Hovhannisyan (92 kg).
