One of the luminaries in the coaching profession in this century – Jurgen Klopp, surprised by finding a new job much faster than expected.
At the end of last season, the German left the English giant “Liverpool” after a super successful stay of nearly 9 years. Then he said he was taking a break.
On Wednesday, however, it was announced that from January 1, Klopp will be the new director of football affairs at the Austrian energy drinks concern Red Bull.
As such, the 57-year-old German will be responsible for the development strategy of the clubs in his portfolio – “RB Leipzig“, (Ger) “Salzburg” (Av) and “New York Red Bulls” (USA), as well as other teams, on which the company is sponsoring.
Among them is the English “Leeds” of the international Iliya Gruev. “Red Bull” is the main supporter of Yorkshiremen from this season, and the logo of the concern is on their jerseys.
Thus, with his new commitment, Klopp takes on the role of a director for “Leeds” and Gruev. The German will not have direct contact with the “Leeds” players themselves, but will give advice to manager Daniel Farke, who is his compatriot, on the playing style. Separately, Klopp will take care of the club’s transfer policy and the development of its coaches.
It is interesting that in the long-term contract of the German with “Red Bull” there is a clause for its termination if he receives an invitation to take over the Bundesliga.
Otherwise, two Bulgarians had the honor of working with Klopp at “Borussia” (Dortmund). These are Dimitar Rangelov and Edison Yordanov.
