Kaley Cuoco Advocates for Pet Adoption, Raising Daughter with a Love for Animals

A growing number of dogs face uncertain futures in the United States, and actress Kaley Cuoco is using her platform to champion adoption and instill a lifelong appreciation for animals in her young daughter, Matilda.

Speaking at an Oh Norman! adoption event with The Amanda Foundation in Los Angeles on November 7, Cuoco, 39, emphasized the importance of introducing children to animals and choosing rescue over retail when adding a pet to the family. The Flight Attendant actress, who founded the eco-friendly pet brand Oh Norman! in honor of her late rescue dog, believes her two-year-old daughter, affectionately nicknamed “Mowgli,” is already developing a deep connection with the animal kingdom.

A Childhood Immersed in Animal Companionship

Cuoco shared that Matilda is already accustomed to a life surrounded by furry friends. “She’s so used to dogs knocking her over, coming through petting, licking her,” she explained. “It’s just part of her life. And I think it is so important being a mom of a young kid, having them around animals.”

This exposure extends beyond the family home. Cuoco and her fiancé, Tom Pelphrey, regularly bring Matilda to their horse ranch, fostering comfort and familiarity with larger animals. “I want her to be raised with animals and understand how to treat a dog and how to treat an animal,” Cuoco stated. “We have to teach our kids.”

A Partner in Passion: Pelphrey’s Support

Cuoco expressed gratitude for Pelphrey’s enthusiastic support of her love for animals. “Thank God,” she remarked, noting that her partner readily embraces her desire to expand their pet family. She recounted a recent conversation where she expressed interest in adopting another Chihuahua, to which Pelphrey responded with characteristic good humor: “Oh, what’s another one?”

Cuoco playfully suggested that Pelphrey is so accepting, she could likely introduce another pet without him noticing. “Once you already have two, it doesn’t matter anymore,” she quipped.

Addressing a National Crisis in Pet Welfare

Beyond her personal life, Cuoco is deeply concerned about the broader issue of pet overpopulation and the challenges faced by animals in shelters. She described a “national crisis” with “how many dogs are left to fend for themselves, ready to be put down, left on the streets, abused.”

Cuoco passionately urged prospective pet owners to prioritize adoption. “There are so many terrible situations, and the shelters are full,” she said. “So it kills me when I hear someone goes and purchases a puppy, it’s like, please consider your shelter first. Because most people like to say, well, ‘I want a certain breed, or I want a puppy, or I want this.’ I can almost guarantee you that you can find the dog that you want at a shelter. I can almost promise that to you. And they will love you forever for it.”

To amplify this message, Cuoco and Oh Norman! actively promote pet adoption through events and social media campaigns.

Cuoco, who “doesn’t remember a time when I didn’t have a dog,” believes that the joy and companionship animals bring to life are immeasurable. By raising her daughter with a deep respect and love for all creatures, she hopes to inspire a future generation of compassionate animal advocates.
