Debt Collector Beating in Jakarta Leaves One Dead, Inquiry Underway

A tragic incident in Kalibata, South Jakarta, on Thursday, December 11th, resulted in the death of one individual following a violent assault on two men identified as debt collectors, locally known as “Eagle Eye” or “matel.” Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, which occurred around 3:30 PM local time.
Initial Confrontation and Escalation
According to Pancoran Police Chief Commissioner Mansur, the incident began when the two debt collectors stopped a motorcyclist. “The chronology is that there was one of the motorbike users.Well, the motorbike was suddenly stopped by thes friends,” Mansur explained. “After it was stopped, according to the witness’ statement, it was only then stopped when the othre road users got out of the car.”
The situation quickly escalated when individuals emerged from a vehicle and began physically assaulting the debt collectors. Mansur described the attack as swift and unexpected. “Suddenly there was a car with a driver on the road too.The driver of the car didn’t know where he came from and suddenly got out to help (the motorcyclist).Then he hit the car driver,” he stated.
Unclear Motives and Ongoing Investigation
At this time, the relationship between the motorcyclist and the attackers remains unknown. Police have yet to identify the perpetrators or establish a clear motive for the assault. Commissioner Mansur confirmed that both the attackers and the motorcyclist fled the scene immediately after the beating.
“While under investigation. According to the testimony of witnesses at the crime scene, they don’t know either, but it happened so quickly,” mansur said. “All of them ran away, they weren’t at the crime scene. Suddenly they weren’t there. Immediately left this matel.”
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are appealing for any details that may lead to the identification and apprehension of those responsible for this violent act.
