Pencak silat is the general name of Indonesian and Malay martial arts, which include two sections: armed and unarmed fighting. In Kazakhstan, this sport has been accredited since the fall of 2019, at which time the first championship of the Republic of Kazakhstan in pencak silat took place.
The Asian Championship took place from October 9 to 16. Kazakhstan was represented by a national team of 62 people. 11 athletes competed for the honor of the Karaganda region. The rivalry turned out to be difficult. Among the main competitors were countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Vice-President of the Republican Federation of Pencak Silat Medet Abzhanov spoke about this in more detail.
“Competing with athletes from Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia in pencak silat is a serious challenge as these countries have a strong tradition in this martial art. The performance of our athletes against the backdrop of such competitive opponents emphasizes their skill and preparedness,” explains Medet Abzhanov.
It is important to note that the attraction of new athletes indicates an increase in interest in the sport and an increase in its popularity in the region.
According to the results of the competition, Abdurakhman Abzhanov and Uali Zhalgasbay won gold medals in the weight of 50 and 60 kilograms, respectively. Diaz Meyram won silver in the 100 kilogram weight category, as well as Aizat Musabek in the 70 kilogram weight category.
In addition, the regional team has five bronze medals in various weight and age categories. They were won by: MukhamadAlim Kantyshev, Kuandyk Malikov, Ernur Dakibay, Nurbol Askarov and Nazerke Temirgaliyeva.
The Vice-President of the Federation also noted that preparations for the World Championship create excellent conditions for improving the skills of athletes. The championship that Medet Abzhanov mentions will take place in December of this year and will be held in Abu Dhabi from the 18th to the 24th. At the moment, athletes are beginning to actively prepare for it.
“The World Championships will be an important event and an excellent opportunity for Kazakh athletes to demonstrate their skills on the international stage. Preparing for this level of competition requires not only physical preparation, but also psychological preparation, so working with an experienced coach can play a significant role in the success of the team,” explains Medet Abzhanov.
We are talking about a guest coach from Indonesia who will train athletes before the World Championships. They will also have training camps in various countries.
“Inviting a coach from Indonesia, a country with a rich tradition and experience in pencak silat, can significantly improve the level of the national team’s preparation. Holding training camps in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, also provides a unique opportunity to exchange experiences and strengthen ties with other countries developing this sport,” concludes the vice-president of the Federation.
