Karan Johar, the leader of the company, sold 50 percent shares of Dharma Productions. Adar Poonawala, the head of Seram Institute, bought the shares of the reputed company for Rs 1000 crore.

Adar Poonawala is also the head of Serine Entertainment. Originally, he bought this 50 percent share in the name of Serine Entertainment. On Monday (October 21), Dharma Productions and Serin Entertainment announced this information in separate statements.

Quoting the statement, NDTV said, Adar Poonawala has bought 50 percent shares of Dharma Productions. The remaining 50 percent will be owned by Karan Johar. Karan Johar sold this share for 1000 crore rupees.

In this regard, Karan Johar said, ‘Dharma Productions has been capturing Indian culture and telling heartwarming stories since its inception. My father used to dream of making such films. Today I am embarking on a joint journey with my close friend Adar to take the legacy of Dharma to new heights.’

Adar Poonawala is excited to own the iconic establishment. He said, ‘Delighted to partner with my friend Karan Johar in one of the most iconic production houses of the country. I hope to build the religion and take it forward.’

Karan Johar’s father Yash Johar founded Dharma Productions in 1979. This old company produced many popular and successful movies. Yash Johar died in 2004. But long before that, Karan Johar took the reins of the company. But for the past few years, Karan Johar’s production company Dharma Productions has been making losses. Karan Johar was looking for new investors to save the company.

In 2022, the production company’s big budget movie ‘Liger’ failed at the box office. Although ‘Brahmastra’ saw success, films like ‘Govinda Naam Mera’, ‘Selfie’ flopped. Apart from that, the movie ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ did not see profit.
