RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan received the legendary Russian figure skating coach Alexei Mishin.
Alexey Mishin, at the invitation of the Figure Skating Federation of Armenia, is holding a training session with his team at the Yerevan Figure Skating and Hockey School from May 1. He also conducts master classes and trainings with Armenian figure skaters of different ages.
The President of the Figure Skating Federation of Armenia Melanya Stepanyan was also present at the meeting.
While welcoming the guests, the deputy minister of KGSMS emphasized the role of similar gatherings and master classes, because, according to Karen Giloyan, our coaches still have a problem of raising their qualifications. “I am sure that your visit will also promote the professional growth of our coaches and will have a positive impact, as well as help improve future results.”
The 81-year-old specialist emphasized that he is impressed by Armenian children. “You have wonderful children. Armenians have always had their own place in figure skating. It is no coincidence that the coach of Winter Olympic Games champion Nathan Chen is Armenian, Rafael Harutyunyan. I know that Armenian specialists are involved in various committees of the international federation and have a significant impact on the development of the sport.”
The famous Russian coach was also impressed by the conditions of Yerevan’s figure skating and hockey sports school. Nevertheless, according to the expert’s observation, it would be possible to achieve success sooner if there were a greater number of skating rinks in Armenia. The deputy minister of KGSMS also highlighted this problem.
According to the President of the Figure Skating Federation of Armenia, Melanya Stepanyan, the children participate with great enthusiasm in the training sessions with Alexey Mishin and the other coaches included in his team, who work with the young figure skaters to improve their jumps and spins, and also do technical work outside the skating rink. “The kids are very excited. It’s not every day that they have the opportunity to work with such professionals.”
It should be noted that the world and European champion in single skating, the world champion in team competition Elizaveta Tuktamisheva, the vice-champion of the team competition of the PyeongChang-2018 Winter Olympic Games, the world champion, the world and European bronze medalist in men’s single skating Mikhail Kolyada, other athletes of the Russian team are participating in the meeting in Yerevan led by Alexei Mishin.
Today, May 11, the Russian figure skating team will finish the meeting in Yerevan and training with Armenian figure skaters.
