With 168 votes, the United Federal Assembly elected Karin Keller-Sutter as Federal President on the second Wednesday of the winter session. For the first time in 40 years, the Federal President comes from the canton of St.Gallen. The cantonal government sincerely congratulates the new Federal President.
To celebrate this election, a public ceremony will take place in Wil on Thursday, 19 December 2024. The event starts at 3:15pm on the courtyard square. In addition to the future Federal President Karin Keller-Sutter, the current federal President Viola Amherd and the President of the st. Gallen district Susanne Hartmann will speak. Remo Forrer will provide the musical accompaniment, and refreshment stands will also be available for guests. Renato Kaiser will direct the event. The public part of the festivity ends at 6:30 in. Before Karin Keller-Sutter was elected to the Federal Council in December 2018, she represented the Canton of St.Gallen as a State councilor since 2011.In 2017/2018 she was chairman of the Small Room.
