Thiruvananthapuram – Kazhakootam Elevated Highway has been opened for public. The largest elevated highway in the state was opened without an official inauguration. The construction was completed but the non-opening was the reason for the protest. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari did not get a date for the inauguration, so the inauguration was delayed.

The National Highways Authority opened the highway to avoid traffic jams. The National Highway Authority said that it was not too late to open the highway and it took time to complete the inspections. The project engineer said that the official inauguration will be held later.

It was announced earlier that the road would be opened on November 15, but it was not opened that day. Later it was announced that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate it on November 29. The construction of the road started in December 2018. The construction cost is Rs 200 crores. The length is 2.71 km from Technopark Phase Three to in front of CSI Mission Hospital. There is a service road at 7.5 meters on both sides. The bridge has 61 pillars.
