Thiruvananthapuram : Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called a meeting of the District Collectors at 4 pm today to coordinate the relief work and assess the rain damage. The chief minister visited the office of the disaster management authority and took stock of the situation. High officials including Chief Secretary were present.
The rains are intensifying in the state. Red alert has been announced in seven districts today. Red alert is in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts. Orange alert in Thrissur and Malappuram districts and yellow alert in rest of the districts.

The Central Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains for the next five days. People should be very careful. The police, fire brigade and other government agencies have been instructed to be alert.
Fishermen should not go into the sea under any circumstances. People have been advised to evacuate from areas prone to landslides. If necessary, they should be shifted to camps. Facilities should be ensured in the camps. Do not go into rivers, water bodies, streams etc. to bathe, wash clothes or bathe animals. Night travel should be avoided as much as possible.
The Chief Minister requested everyone to be ready to strictly follow the warnings given by the Disaster Management Authority at their respective times. At the same time, due to rain in the state, the District Collectors have declared holiday for educational institutions in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts.
