Killers of the Flower Moon ***

by Martin Scorsese

American film, 3:26

Adapted from a book by David Grann, released in France under the title The American Note, Martin Scorsese delivers for his long-awaited return to the screens an anti-western about a little-known episode in America: a series of murders perpetrated against members of the Osage community in Oklahoma in the 1920s. Driven from their land Originally then suddenly enriched by the discovery of an oil deposit, they become the target of a few greedy neighbors determined to get their hands on this unexpected windfall. Fascinated by the darkness of the human soul, Martin Scorsese has created the most political film of his career, painting the portrait of a country given over to violence and the rule of the strongest.

Priesthood ***

by Damien Boyer

French film, 1h30

For his fourth film, Damien Boyer documents the daily lives of priests – often young – and thus lifts the veil around this figure who is still mysterious to the general public. His camera reveals, with empathy and truth, the intimacy of these clerics driven by their desire to surpass themselves, whether through sport or their commitments. The director also addresses common questions surrounding life as a priest such as the choice of celibacy. Full of nuances, this documentary, punctuated with flattering panoramic shots, allows spectators to better understand the vocation animating these priests who go to meet their neighbors, from Ariège to the Philippines.

Linda wants chicken ***

by Chiara Malta and Sébastien Laudenbach

Franco-Italian animation film, 1 h 16

From 6 years old

Tender and zany comedy with tangy colors, Linda wants chicken celebrates the resilience of childhood. While the heroine lost her father at 2 years old, she remembers her favorite recipe very well: chicken with peppers. Dish that Linda asks her mother one day, the latter seeking to be forgiven for having punished her daughter unjustly. Unfortunately, a general strike complicates their plan and hastens their adventures to cook the famous poultry. With rare accuracy in the evocation of parent-child relationships, this film takes the viewer into a tender and burlesque universe, where the children give a beautiful lesson in humanity.

A difficult year **

by Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache

French film, 1h37

Caught in the spiral of debt, Albert (Pio Marmaï) and Bruno (Jonathan Cohen) are at the end of their rope when they find themselves unwillingly enlisted in a group of environmental activists, led by Valentine, a charismatic environmental defender played by Noémie Merlant. This new social satire, produced by the Toledano-Nakache duo, gently shakes up both “overconsumers” and degrowth purists. Well calibrated, although sometimes without surprise, this film accurately captures a certain spirit of the times which could have been punctuated with a little more madness.

Anselm. The sound of time **

the Wim Wenders

German film, 1h34

Twelve years after his documentary on Pina Bausch, Wim Wenders reveals the creative behind the scenes of the painter and sculptor Anselm Kiefer, based in France since 1992 at the Barjac estate in the Cévennes. Transformed into a gigantic open-air work of art, this property is one of six places chosen to tell the story of the life of the artist born in post-Nazi Germany, who became a sacred monster of global contemporary art. Thanks to its 3D format, this inspiring film immerses spectators in a poetically dark universe, where Kiefer’s crazy architecture and large plaster sculptures stand out.
