jpnn.comJAKARTA – Commissioner of the National Commission on Disabilities (KND) Kikin Tarigan hopes that students and students will be able to become agents of power to change the perspective or negative stigma towards people with disabilities. Because, young people, whether students, students and others, are very aware of information from social media or other things.

He also hopes that the world of education, especially at the tertiary level which has the Tri Dharma, can make disability issues a material for public study and learning. Apart from that, Kikin added that campuses must also be able to become institutions that are close to people with disabilities.

“It is important (to make students and students agents of change in negative stigma). First, if they are disabled, they must affirm themselves so that they are equal to friends who are not disabled. Second, when they are not disabled, then they can give respect and protection to friends with disabilities,” he said.

Kikin conveyed this in an inclusion seminar entitled “Equal Rights and Safety of Persons with Disabilities” at UTA’45 Jakarta, which was attended by 150 students and students from 10 schools in North Jakarta, Wednesday (16/10). “This young group is an educated, information literate group. technologically literate. I believe they will be agents of power for people with disabilities,” he added.

Kikin, in a seminar resulting from a collaboration between Creative Journalists and the public study institute IDP-LP and the Public Administration Study Program UTA’45 Jakarta, stated that disability problems cannot only be solved by the disability world itself.

According to him, young people can also encourage local governments, ministries, institutions to care more about people with disabilities.

“We are not hiding the fact that on social media there is a negative perspective towards people with disabilities. These young friends, right, can sort, choose, which content is good for raising disability issues, not just funny things,” he said.

Kikin said that people with disabilities and non-disabled people have the same rights, namely human rights which cannot be taken away by anyone.
