“Preemptive prevention will serve as an opportunity to effectively reduce illegal waste generation.”

The Korea Environment Corporation (Chairman Byeong-ok Ahn), under the Ministry of Environment, announced on the 18th that it would operate an illegal waste dumping reporting counseling center for land and factory owners (lessees).

The reporting counseling center will select 21 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do where there is a high risk of illegal dumping as priority target areas and conduct pilot operations, and plans to adjust the implementation area by analyzing future performance.

The 12 cities and counties include Gapyeong-gun, Gwacheon-si, Gwangju-si, Guri-si, Gunpo-si, Namyangju-si, Dongducheon-si, Seongnam-si, Suwon-si, Anseong-si, Anyang-si, Yangpyeong-gun, Yeoju-si, Osan-si, Yongin-si, Uiwang-si, Uijeongbu-si, Icheon-si, Pyeongtaek-si, Pocheon-si, and Hanam-si.

By operating this illegal waste dumping reporting counseling center, the Corporation plans to prevent damage to land and factory owners caused by dumping organizations and provide administrative and legal advice to citizens who have previously suffered damage.

The reporting counseling center provides damage counseling through various channels, from on-site confirmation to online (and phone counseling (main number 1800-4868)) to improve accessibility and convenience for land and factory owners when illegal dumping or waste abandonment is suspected or damage occurs.

In addition, to revitalize the reporting counseling center, we plan to carry out various online and offline promotional activities, such as posting pop-up notices on the Allbaro System and the Waste Site Information Management System and producing and distributing leaflets using QR codes.

Byeong-ok Ahn, Chairman of the Korea Environment Corporation, said, “We expect that this pilot operation of the reporting counseling center will provide systematic support to the difficulties experienced by land owners and at the same time serve as an opportunity to effectively reduce the generation of illegal waste through preemptive prevention.”
