Fiok said the government had given permission for the film to be screened at 50 per cent seating capacity, but had received complaints from the film’s producers that it was being screened with too many people in various theaters. The theaters that carried the most people did not show it in the collection records. According to the organizers, the theaters have done a great disservice to those who helped by giving the film to all the theaters when they did not dare to release any film.

The organization, in an official note, directed the theater owners to provide the collection details to the producers as per the action on the complaint and to provide CCTV footage when requested.

It is also suggested that the collection information be sent to the number provided by the producers after the film closes each show. The note also said that all the theaters should work together for the producers to have faith in the theaters and for the survival of the film industry.

Kurup was released on November 12 in 1500 theaters. Apart from Malayalam, the film has been released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada versions. In Kerala alone, it was released in over 450 theaters. Directed by Srinath Rajendran, the film was produced by Dulquar-owned Wafer Films and Amsterdam Entertainment.
