► Ukraine strikes Russian air defense system in Crimea
The Ukrainian army claimed on Monday October 30 to have “hit successfully” a Russian anti-aircraft defense system in annexed Crimea during the night from Sunday to Monday.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine successfully struck a strategic site of the air defense system on the western coast of Crimea”the army’s strategic communications center said on Telegram.
► Russia says it shot down eight Ukrainian missiles targeting Crimea
Russian forces shot down eight Ukrainian missiles targeting Crimea, a peninsula annexed in 2014 by Moscow and regularly targeted by Kiev forces, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday.
“An attempt by the kyiv regime to attack facilities on the Crimean peninsula with eight Storm Shadow cruise missiles has been foiled”indicated the Russian ministry adding that “all the missiles (had) been shot down”.
► Beijing and Moscow denounce countries that want to “create problems”
A senior Chinese military official and the Russian defense minister accused some countries on Monday of wanting to ” make trouble “ in Asia and elsewhere, during a defense forum in Beijing.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has accused Washington of wanting to create instability in Asia. “After provoking an acute crisis in Europe, the West is trying to extend the crisis potential to the Asia-Pacific”he said.
“The direct involvement of countries with nuclear arsenals multiplies strategic risks”, he added. And “the West’s posture towards escalation towards Russia poses the risk of a direct conflict between nuclear powers, which would have catastrophic consequences”.
China has refused to condemn the invasion of Ukraine and seeks to position itself as a neutral party in the conflict, while offering Moscow vital diplomatic and financial assistance.
