Today, not only meteorologists speak of the mix (of sun and clouds), but also politicians (mix of freedom and responsibility) and sociologists (mix of work and leisure). It hurts the German – and stands for a particularly repressive attitude.
Since there is only climate instead of weather, the weather forecast predicts a “mix of sun and clouds” instead of a changeable weather situation. A “mix of clouds and rain” is even more worrying. But not only weather forecasts are increasingly being formulated in cocktail shaker jargon, but also social diagnoses.
The Sociologist Andrej Holm calls for “new strategies” from municipal urban planners in order to “stop the run of financialized real estate investments with a mix of bans on change and municipalization”. And the Bertelsmann Foundation recommends “a mix of new environmental taxes, the reduction of climate-damaging subsidies and higher public investments” as the basis for a budget-friendly energy transition.

People who talk like this and who think they understand each other don’t shy away from the mix of options, discourses and interactions when it comes to getting intensively involved in the socio-political exchange. If such people visit an exhibition, it must offer at least a mix of art, science and politics. For them, lived middle class means a mix of freedom and responsibility, successful life planning requires a balanced work-leisure mix and a fulfilled partnership must be a mix of mindfulness and letting go.

Permissive of the banal and repressive of the specific, the mix, in its varied uniformity, is just as genuine a product of imperious relativism as diversity, wokeness, and cultural sensitivity. He simply mixes the worst with the best, making everything bad indiscriminately.
The mix lets nothing stand for itself, everything that is different flows into one another, turns every so-and-nothing-other into an amorphous something and thus confirms the words of Goethe: Stepped Quark becomes broad, not strong.
