Laos wishes to formally declare its interest in becoming a member BRICS.

According to Day.Az, the President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic said this Thonglun Sisulitspeaking at the first plenary session of the XVI BRICS summit in the BRICS plus format in Kazan.

“We are ready to increase the level of our interaction with BRICS on a wide range of issues. We hope for your support and acceptance of Laos as a future member of the BRICS group. Today, more than ever, BRICS plays an indispensable role in changing the world order and creating cooperation mechanisms that will be mutually convenient and are effective for all countries, especially developing countries in the Global South, which in turn helps us build a better future. These commitments are fully consistent with the theme of today’s meeting, “Building a Better World Together,” he said.

Sisoulith noted that the Lao People’s Democratic Republic is counting on multilateral mechanisms to achieve sustainable cooperation.

“We also note the decisive role of creating multilateral cooperation in the spirit of multilateral mechanisms, which is especially necessary to create a world of security and balance. Laos has become the chairman of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. In order to develop sustainability, we have identified 9 key areas, including economic integration, inclusive sustainable growth, economic and humanitarian cooperation, health cooperation, and community expansion,” said the President of Laos.

According to him, Laos believes that BRICS is an effective mechanism of interaction that has great potential for influence on the global stage.

“We therefore call on BRICS to continue to strengthen its leadership and move the world towards equitable development and equality. BRICS and developing countries should strengthen multilateral and bilateral cooperation, helping each other and increasing assistance to the Global South. All this will create favorable conditions for achieving the UN sustainable development goal before 2030 and will ensure the inclusive implementation of these goals,” he added.

Let us recall that earlier the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko also stated that Belarus is ready to become an active participant in BRICS.
