Barcelona club president Joan Laporta responded to press reports that cast doubt on Ronald Araujo’s continuation in Barcelona’s ranks, expressing his optimism about the Uruguayan defender’s continuation for a long time.
Laporta said in statements to the Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo: “Araujo is very integrated. The only problem is that sometimes communication is not good, and by that I mean negotiations.”
He continued: “I think the matter was resolved in some way, because there was some distortion, and we succeeded in conveying everything we were thinking to Ronald.”
When asked if he was optimistic that the Uruguayan defender would continue with Barca, he replied: “Yes, yes.”
Laporta touched on Araujo’s link to moving to Bayern Munich, saying: “Barcelona is good, much better than it was. We are in the process of economic recovery.”
He concluded: “If some of the processes we are developing come to fruition, we will soon have good news in this regard, as the club has a present and a viable future.”
The 25-year-old has a contract with the Catalan club until the summer of 2026, but it stipulates that he will receive a low salary, compared to his counterparts in the major clubs.
