Large-scale hack on social network X

by times news cr

The popular social network X is at the center of a scandal after an unprecedented security breach affecting the accounts of senior British parliamentarians and international organizations.

As Day.Az reports, The Guardian reports this.

Cybercriminals managed to hack the profiles of British Justice Minister Shabana Mahmood, Labor MPs Chris Elmore and Caroline Harris, as well as the pages of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Indian division of Lenovo and the popular British cooking show Great British Menu.

Hackers used hacked accounts to post identical messages promoting cryptocurrency. Despite the prompt removal of the posts, they were still visible on the TweetDeck dashboard. The messages contained information about tokens used to profit from hacked profiles.

This cyberattack not only exposed serious security vulnerabilities in social network X, but also highlighted the need to strengthen the protection of user accounts. According to the UK National Cyber Security Centre, cyber attacks on government agencies and large companies have increased by 30% in 2022 compared to the previous year.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that politicians’ accounts on social network X have been hacked. In 2016, hackers took over the profile of former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn and indecent tweets appeared on it.

Cybersecurity experts urge users to regularly update passwords, use two-factor authentication and be vigilant when clicking on suspicious links.
