Fans who have been vaccinated against coronavirus or have had it, will be able to attend the matches of the Ice Hockey World Championship in Riga, this decision was made by the Parliament (Parliament) of Latvia. The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to develop a procedure for admission to matches of these categories of fans, according to the website of the Seim. The Ice Hockey World Championship will take place in Riga from May 21 to June 6.

At the games of the World Ice Hockey Championship, spectators will be able to attend who:

  • at least two weeks ago they completed a full course of vaccination against COVID-19 with drugs approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or the World Health Organization (WHO), there are no Russian vaccines among them;
  • have received a second dose of AstraZeneca or have been between 22 and 90 days after receiving the first;
  • can documentally confirm that they have had COVID-19, while no more than 180 days should pass from the date of receiving a positive test for coronavirus.

The Russian national team will play on May 21 with a team from the Czech Republic. The Russians, due to sanctions from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), will perform under the anthem of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and instead of the Russian flag, the logo of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) will be used.

The matches of the World Ice Hockey Championship were also supposed to be held in Minsk, but due to the reaction of the Belarusian authorities to the protests in the country, the sponsors refused to support the competition there. After that, the IIHF deprived Belarus of the right to host the World Ice Hockey Championship.
