January 15th-19th… OK Savings Bank Brion-DRX matchup on the first day
Slight change in commentators… Changes in POM voting method to select the best player for each game
The 2025 LCK Cup, the first cup competition in League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) history, opens with various changes.
LCK, which hosts the Korean professional league of League of Legends (LoL), announced on the 14th that the opening week match of the 2025 LCK Cup will be held at the LCK Arena at LoL Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul from the 15th to the 19th of this month. The first day opens with a match between OK Savings Bank Brion and DRX.
This LCK Cup will be held in the Noxus-themed ‘Summoner’s Rift’, which is also applied to the LoL live server. It is expected that it will act as a factor leading to more frequent engagements and provide a faster sense of speed than existing competition games.
The Noxus-themed Summoner’s Rift is different from the existing canyons in many ways. First, a new epic monster, ‘Atakan’, appears. Atakan is divided into Atakan of Destruction and Atakan of Gluttony depending on the game pattern, and one of the two is created near an area where there were frequent battles. Each provides either an epic monster effect increase or a one-time resurrection effect.
Another change is the ‘use of force’ system. The use of force is an additional mission given to each team. The team that performs two of the three epic monsters first, first to destroy the turret, and first to achieve the first two will be given an effect called ‘Blessing of Noxus’ and receive a boot item enhancement reward.
The competition format will also be updated with group competition and peerless draft. In the first round, 10 participating teams will participate in the competition, divided into two groups of 5 each: the Baron group and the Elder group. Each group participates in the game as one team, and the teams’ performances are combined, and the top three teams in the group with better performances advance directly to the playoffs.
Peerless Draft is a ban pick system that prevents champions selected in the previous set from being selected in the next set. As the set progresses, more champions are added to the banned list, resulting in a fierce battle of wits among the coaches. It is expected to be a lot of fun for fans because players also need to know how to handle various champions to increase their chances of winning.
The members of the Korean broadcasting team will also change. As Jeong No-cheol ‘Nope’ and Kang Hyeong-woo ‘Captain Jack’ left, Chae-hwan ‘Prince’ Lee joined.
The voting system was changed to POM (Player of the Match), which selects the best player in a game. It is meaningful to select the player who performed the best in each set, but the change is intended to add weight to the vote itself by switching to selecting the player who performed best throughout the entire match.
Week 1 will be broadcast live on online platforms such as SOOP, Naver Esports & Games, and YouTube LCK channel. The game starts at 5 PM on weekdays and 3 PM on weekends, and on-site ticket reservations can be made at Interpark from 48 hours before the game starts.
