The damage is only material, but it is significant. During the night from Thursday to Friday around 10 p.m., a car garage burned to the ground in Blanc-Mesnil (Seine-Saint-Denis). The building located at the corner of Rue de la République and Rue Richard-Wagner covered an area of 600 m2. Inside, fifteen vehicles burst into flames. The 150 firefighters, from 21 barracks, mobilized with 49 machines and five hoses managed to bring the disaster under control around 1:30 a.m.

“It was a fire which did not present any particular risks,” said the Paris fire brigade (BSPP). However, a security perimeter was set up because during their intervention, the firefighters heard detonations caused by gas fumes escaping from canisters used in the company.

Three buildings neighboring the warehouse were evacuated. Flames threatened one of the houses. In total, seven adults and seven children were sheltered in the premises of the Jules-Vallès school. No injuries were reported, either among the evacuees or among any employees of the garage, which was empty at this late hour.

Criminal or accidental, the origin of the disaster remains to be established. Technicians from the central laboratory went to the site to take the necessary samples. Analyzes are in progress.

The investigation was entrusted to the local police station.
