Libya, total French failure. Paris ousted by Turks and Russians

by time news

The Libyan state does not exist. Huge on paper, but …

A Paris took place the International Conference for the Libya, with the presence of many important characters. The aim is to favor the elections scheduled in that country for December 24, elections that are hoped to be correct and transparent, for the return (?) To an accomplished and stable democracy.

That the intentions are good, there is no doubt. That they are sincere, one may ask, but that the plans are realistic is unlikely. Like all assemblies of this kind, the Conference it will hardly be of any use. In international politics, strength counts; and in a case like the Libyan one, force counts both internationally and – unfortunately – internally. Anyone who can gain an advantage with it will not refrain from exercising it.

The Libyan state does not exist. Immense on paper, the territory actually consists of a narrow strip along the Mediterranean. So long that those who live in the east regard those who live in the west as outsiders, and both groups regard the members of the sparse southern tribes as outsiders. The country therefore resembles the Chile: but Chile is the son of Spanish immigration and is therefore united, as a nation, while the Libya it is in the colloidal state. Furthermore, the current government does not have control of the territory. Only a strong dictatorship like Gaddafi’s has been able to keep the region united and relatively peaceful for decades.

A few years ago the France, it is not clear for what interests, it is determined to eliminate (even physically) Gaddafi and thus committed one of the worst (and also dishonorable) mistakes in its history. This is proved by the fact that, years after his intervention, the Libya it is worse than before and the French have been practically ousted by the Turks and Russians. A total failure.

But this case raises the question: what is necessary for a country to be democratic?
