Libyan sheikhs and notables develop an action plan to promote national reconciliation

A meeting was held in the city of Benghazi, bringing together the leaders of the National Authority of Sheikhs and Notables of Libya – Cyrenaica Branch, to discuss mechanisms for promoting comprehensive national reconciliation in Libya and the role of notables and sheikhs in achieving this goal.

The attendees focused on “the importance of reconciliation as a basic foundation for building a prosperous future for Libya, while emphasizing that reconciliation is not just a slogan, but rather an urgent necessity to build trust between the various components of Libyan society and strengthen social cohesion.”

The participants also discussed “a set of practical proposals to promote reconciliation, including the role of tribal custom in resolving disputes and settling disputes. They also called for holding dialogue meetings between notables from the East, West, and South to enhance mutual understanding.”

He presented a proposal “about establishing a fund to support those affected by previous events and promoting the reconciliation process, and the attendees stressed the importance of cooperation with the state and security institutions.”

The participants stressed “the pivotal role of the National Authority for Sheikhs and Notables of Libya in achieving national reconciliation, as the Authority works at the level of all of Libya and includes branches in various regions.”

The meeting resulted in several important results, “among them the development of a comprehensive action plan to promote national reconciliation that will be presented to the relevant authorities.”

The participants stressed “the importance of partnership with civil society organizations to support reconciliation efforts and achieve their goals.”

It is noteworthy that the National Authority for Libyan Sheikhs and Notables is organized into three branches throughout Libya, and each branch includes a number of offices, and each office includes a president and ten sheikhs.
