Currently, international work is underway on a possible project launch for the construction of hydrogen pipelines in the North-Baltic Corridor. Feasibility studies have now been completed and ideally the project could start in 2030, but understanding the technical and commercial challenges, Conexus Baltic Grid the chairman of the board, Uldis Bariss, thinks that it would be correct to talk about the thirties.
The project is financially very extensive, the costs in all participating countries – from Finland to Germany through the Baltic States and Poland – could exceed eight billion euros. In the territory of Latvia, these investments are estimated at 0.8-1 billion euros. Although the project will be challenging, the participating countries are really interested in the creation of the corridor. The purpose of the hydrogen corridor will be to serve industrial consumption. It is expected that the region of hydrogen production will be Finland and the Baltic States, while the region of consumption will be Germany and Poland.
