The Central District Court today (Monday) sentenced a resident of Lod, Sami Kara, who was convicted of murdering his 17-year-old daughter Henriette about four years ago because she wanted to convert to Islam.
In light of the murky relationship with her parents and their resolute opposition to the relationship with the young man – which was also reflected in violence and threats against her – the deceased left home in May 2017. The young woman feared for her life and stayed in various hiding places, including the young man’s mother.
Following this, the accused, the mother of the deceased and other family members tried to return home both by frequent inquiries to the police and demanding that their daughter be returned home, and by exerting pressure and threats against her and the mother of the young man who housed her. Eventually, the deceased was forced to leave the place.
In June 2017 the deceased spent at the school graduation party, and returned home early in the morning. The next morning she left the house and deposited in the post office bank a sum of NIS 400 for a “canteen” for her partner. She then talked to a relative, and the other son told her that at the end of the week the young man was going to get out of prison and that she intended to convert to Islam, and also told her that she had deposited money in the canteen for him. Near the end of the call, a relative called the defendant and told him its contents.
Shortly afterwards, the defendant went to the apartment where the deceased was staying alone at the time. Against the background of his view that her conduct, contact with the young man and her leaving the house harmed the family’s dignity and embarrassed him, the decision to cause the deceased’s death came to his heart. In order to achieve his goal, he equipped himself with a knife. Defendant stabbed the deceased three times with the knife, causing her death on the spot.
