Personal care brand Lily, determined to prevent health risks, launched paraben-free Lily Soothing Gel and Lily Silk’s Hair Fall Defense and Silk & Shine Shampoo. Remark LLC, USA affiliate manufactures these brand products in their own state of the art production facility. Lilly’s global research and development team has worked tirelessly to ensure that every product is of international quality, free from harmful chemicals. As a result, parabens have been reported in other products on the market, but parabens are not found in Lily brand shampoos and sudsing gels. These products are also proven in dermatologic tests.

Hasan Farooq, operative director of home and personal care of Remark LLC USA, said, “According to the data found in a recent international study, dangerous levels of harmful chemical ‘paraben’ have been found in several popular personal care products in the country’s market. Apart from increasing the risk of fatal cancer, it has many other serious health risks. Lilly is careful to ensure that its products do not contain harmful heavy metals such as lead, benzophenone, arsenic, cadmium, mercury—these harmful heavy metals are not present in any of its products. We also encourage our consumers to use quality products to avoid damaging these ingredients.’

Enriched with natural oils, Lily’s SilkCore Shampoo comes in two variants, Silk & Shine and Hair Fall Defense to detangle and leave hair silky and shiny. On the other hand, Lily Soothing Gel in Aloe Vera and Cucumber variants, enriched with Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid, imparts essential nutrients to the skin to leave a soft, soothing feel. Free from parabens and harmful chemicals that cause cancer, these products are ideal for hair and skin care for the whole family.

Dangerous levels of chemical ‘paraben’ have been found in handwash marketed by some unscrupulous traders in the market, which will increase the risk of cancer in the human body. Studies have also shown that it can cause high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and kidney problems. The study also analyzed product samples from seven other countries. But, it has been found that Bangladeshi products contain the highest amount of parabens. Parabens are a type of preservative-like chemical commonly used to extend the shelf life of cosmetics, personal care products, and pharmaceuticals. Parabens are widely used by manufacturers as they are less expensive and readily available. Many blame parabens for reproductive problems, cancer risk, hormonal imbalance. For this reason, several countries have banned the use of parabens in their products.

A housewife in the capital, who did not want to be named, told this reporter, “In addition to creating public awareness, the government should take appropriate steps to stop the use of parabens.”

Ashraful Ambia, President of Association of Skin Care and Beauty Products Manufacturers and Exporters of Bangladesh, said, ‘Some businessmen market harmful products just to make a profit. But, from the point of social responsibility, the interest of consumers should also be taken into consideration.’
