Lithuania has tightened control over the import of grain from the Russian Federation, which enters the republic’s market or transits to the Klaipeda port. This was reported by the State Veterinary and Food Service of Lithuania, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

Imported grain is checked for traces of pesticides, microtoxins and metals (lead and cadmium). Feed grains have been checked since Monday. “Every wagon, every truck is checked,” the message quotes department representative Aiste Prelgauskaite as saying. In the coming days, control measures will be extended to food grains. “The coordination of procedures is being completed. The corresponding order can be signed on March 20,” she said.

The same measures will apply to countries and territories that Lithuania has included in the high-risk list. It included Abkhazia, Belarus, Transnistria, and South Ossetia. The grain is not subject to EU sanctions.

In the future, it is planned to conduct research to determine the country of origin of the grain.
