“It doesn’t demotivate us”: on the Rungis road, the game of cat and mouse between farmers and the police

Since the departure of Panazol, near Limoges (Haute-Vienne), it has been a game of cat and mouse between the convoy of farmers and the police who want to prevent it from taking the major axes leading to Paris, observes on the spot Alix Vermande, correspondent of the Figaro.

If the convoy had already been blocked on the A20 near Bessines-sur-Gartempe, forcing it to take a secondary road, this was again the case when taking an entrance to take the motorway towards Châteauroux .

The farmers were thus diverted to La Croisière, on the border with Creuse before being able to take the D220, a road parallel to the A20. “They force us to take small roads and the procession spreads out. But that doesn’t demotivate us. We’ll get there no matter what, even if we arrive late tonight. I think it will annoy the agricultural world”confides Rémy Pechabaden, grain grower from Lot-et-Garonne, at the heart of the convoy which travels at 35-40km/h.

The gendarmerie vans move gradually to block each entrance to the A20. Like a chase on two parallel roads.

By passing through these small roads, the convoy can in any case appreciate its popularity. On the side of the road, the people of Haut-Viennois greet them, raise their fists and film this line of tractors of around ten kilometers. “Yesterday, it was the same in Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne. We have public opinion with us”rejoices Rémy Pechabaden from Rural Coordination.
