Lluís Busquets and Grabulosa premiere ‘Jesus, a controversial story’ in Olot

The Pere Serrat Theater in Olot opened on Saturday night the play by Lluís Busquets and Grabulosa’Jesus, a controversial story (open and critical forum)‘ with a dramatized reading.

The work, premiered at the Els Catòlics Cultural Center, is directed by Santi Jou and interpreted by Rhapsody Literary Voices and the drama section of the Catholic Center of Olot.

‘Jesus, a controversial story’ (Editorial Oliveras, 2021) stages an “open, critical and ecumenical” colloquium that reflects the research of the last 30 years on the historical jesusthe author explained.

The text reflects the most controversial issues involved in historically accepting the figure of Jesus, by staging the participants in a debate organized by an archpriest.

A forum for controversial topics

They participate in the forum, as guests of the archpriesta Protestant pastor, Catholic theologians (both progressive and conservative), an atheist doctor and a feminist ecologist.

The combination of fictional characters reflects controversial themes, such as the birth of Jesus, his preaching and what his followers did, the controversial interpretation of the last supper as a Passover meal and the crucifixion, in addition to two miracles, according to the original text.

The assembly premiered in Olot, however, followed the advice from the author himselfwho agrees to adapt it to the objectives of the theater group that stages the text.

For this reason, the director Santi Jou has focused on the birth in Bethlehem, the virginity of Mary, the brothers of Jesus, his illiteracy and also his resurrection as explained by the experts today.

The original text, which was prefaced by the schoolboy Rodolf Puigdollers, dramatizes a theme that Busquets (Olot, 1947) deals with in many essays: ‘Ultima notícia de Jesús el Nazarè’ (2006), ‘Jesus was a heretic’ (2014), ‘Heretics, persecuted and excommunicated’ (2015), ‘God, evil and my cancer’ (2017), ‘The secret gospels of Mary and Magdalene’ (2009) and ‘Letter to the Pope from a critical believer’ (2010).
