Atlético Madrid has officially signed Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, bolstering their attack with a versatile player whose recent performance in the Europa League final captivated the football world.
Atlético Madrid announced the signing this Monday, following successful medical examinations and a contract signing ceremony at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, attended by the club’s CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín. The agreement secures Lookman’s services until June 30, 2030, representing a four-and-a-half-year commitment from the 28-year-old footballer.
Lookman arrives in Madrid after a standout season with Atalanta, culminating in a historic Europa League victory. He single-handedly propelled Atalanta to a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen – a team previously undefeated in the competition – by scoring all three goals. According to Atlético de Madrid, this decisive performance was instrumental in securing Atalanta’s first-ever continental title and directly influenced the Spanish club’s pursuit of the player.

The newly acquired forward, born in Wandsworth, United Kingdom, brings a dynamic skillset to the Spanish capital. Atlético Madrid highlighted Lookman’s versatility, noting his ability to play as a second striker or on either wing, utilizing both feet to create attacking opportunities with speed and agility.
The transfer was preceded by an agreement in principle announced on Sunday, but was finalized only after Lookman fulfilled all medical and contractual requirements. Lookman’s professional career began in the youth ranks of Waterloo FC and Charlton Athletic, where he made his debut on November 3, 2015. He subsequently gained experience with Everton, Leipzig, Fulham, and Leicester City before joining Atalanta in the summer of 2022.
