On April 11 and 12, in the permanent exhibition room of the Riobamba House Museum, the Central Bank of Ecuador presents pieces from its Numismatic Museum; testimony of the monetary and economic history of Ecuador.

Darwin García, assistant of the Museum of the Central Bank of Ecuador, indicated that the institution has different exhibitions, one of them the numismatic exhibition in the customer service area. This theme that is presented in the ‘Sultana de Los Andes’, specifically refers to the creation of the Central Bank; The objective is for citizens and especially the new generations to connect with what was our monetary identity, such as the “Sucre”, and the entire evolution of the currency and above all our history as it is linked to a monetary identity of our country.

Visitors will be able to see gold, silver and nickel coins; In addition, the original Sucre of 1884, a coin of good “law”, made up of 90% silver and 10% other metals.

García recalled that at this time the one sucre coin was known as Ayora by President Isidro Ayora, the 50-cent coin as Laurita, by his wife, and the one and a half cent coin in the mountains as cale con chocho, and in the coast like cale with coconut.

He called on all Riobambeños to visit the exhibition, since they will learn the history of the various forms of mercantile and commercial change that existed in what is now Ecuador. (12)
