Karipur: How about flying to Malaysia from Kozhikode for just six thousand rupees? There will be an opportunity to fly to Malaysia at a low cost from the month of May. Air Asia, a Malaysian budget airline, will operate the service three times a week. Booking will start in mid-April.
The company got the time slots required for the service yesterday. Company sources said tickets will be available from Rs 6,000 onwards. Kozhikode-Kuala Lumpur route will be operated in the first phase. A320 aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers will be used for the service. As Indians do not need a visa to travel to Malaysia, travel from Kozhikode can be done at very low cost. Kozhikode-Thailand service is also under consideration by AirAsia.
With the launch of the service, people from the Malabar region and places like Coimbatore and Mangalore can easily travel to places like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, Bali, Australia and New Zealand. Others fly to these countries from the Malabar region for business, tourism and study needs.
At present they rely on Kochi, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Bengaluru and Coimbatore airports.
