Paola Vazquez, researcher of IMCOcommented in an interview that the proportion of women in legal areas of organizations fell from 25% to 23% between 2023 and 2024.
She pointed out that worldwide, in the last two decades, the role of women on boards of directors has grown 10% up to 27% by 2022, according to data located by the OECD in the region.
By region, the IMCO indicated that in the United States their presence grew since the 8% to 22%, from 2005 to 2025but although there is progress, the pace of growth has slowed in recent years and the first drop in female representation in senior management positions has been recorded.
In Mexico, they were reviewed together with the firm specialized in labor issues Kiik Consultants to 200 companies listed on the Mexican Stock Exchange where it was detected that the presence of women on the boards of Mexican companies continues to be very low (13%), figures that did not move compared to last year.
Paola Vázquez added that in the case of independent directors Participation has been slow, going from 3.8% in 2021 to 4.6% in 2024.
“These directors do not have a direct link with the company and are chosen for their professional capacity and prestige.”
In sum, a 7% of companies have less than 30% of women on their boards, which represents a slight advance compared to the previous year (6%).
And of 200 groups in the country, only nine councils are chaired by a woman.

Only 12.9% of jobs in these sectors are occupied by women.
Furthermore, the 21% of Mexican women who work in the sector do so in jobs related to science and technology, compared to 42% of men.
