arrived on Sky on demand 10 years after its US broadcast, but tells the world of the racecourse without disfiguring the rich panorama of seriality

Valid series do not age; here then is a product like Luck it can arrive in Italy ten years after the US airing and not disfigure at all in the rich and complex panorama of series that we are used to.

Made by Hbo and available on Sky on demand, Luck is a series that brings to the stage a world that is often articulated and inaccessible like that of horse racing, revealing the background of a universe made up of passions and interests that often come together on the border between legality and illegality. The stories of different characters intertwine in the paddocks and on the stands; the center of these relationships represented by Chester Ace Bernstein (played by Dustin Hoffman), released from prison after three years and determined to take revenge on whoever framed him.

The racecourse populated by men and women who seem to emerge from difficult lives, of ambitions and despair, in a successful fresco of the world of gambling and its drifts. The excellent cast (there is also Nick Nolte, in the role of an old coach who fights against the corruption of the system) and the deep and accurate writing of the characters help, even with not a few efforts, to overcome the obstacles given by a slowness at times exaggerated, in some ways the daughter of another era of seriality.

The first episode deals with and presents the junctions that will follow one another along the way against the background of a Los Angeles that at times becomes an additional protagonist, able to look down from above and cloak the complicated stories that unfold in the shadow of the racecourse. The world of horse racing is not immediately accessible and Luck seems to flaunt this detachment; for rhythm, expansion and complexity, a pre-streaming series, without the dictatorship of binge-watching and platforms that have revolutionized the entire sector.
