President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) criticized this Friday (25) former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for his treatment of African countries throughout his term as head of the Brazilian government. According to Lula, under Bolsonaro’s command, Brazil was indifferent towards the African continent.

“In recent years, Brazil has unfortunately treated African countries with indifference. For the first time since redemocratization, we had a president who did not visit Africa”, complained Lula during an official visit to Angola.

“Brazilian embassies were closed. The cooperation was abandoned. We stopped working together in international forums. Let’s fix these mistakes. And we are going to take our strategic partnership to a new level”, added the president.

Lula’s speeches took place during an official visit to Angola, in a ceremony with members of the government. At the end of the meeting, the head of the Brazilian Executive made a statement to the press and spoke of expanding ties with the continent.

“Brazil was the first country to recognize Angola’s independence, and since then all government officials have paid attention to Angola. Only recently, when the country was taken over by hatred, fake news and lies, by a president who didn’t like anyone, was Angola forgotten,” said Lula.

“Brazil will return to the African continent. I want to visit as many countries as I can, make as many deals as I can, contribute with technology transfer wherever I can. Angola will always be our gateway to this continent,” added the president.
