Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was received by former President Dilma Rousseff (PT) when he landed at the Shanghai airport, in China, this Wednesday (12), at 10:20 p.m. local time (11:20 in Brasilia). The Brazilian leader arrived 30 minutes later at the hotel, located in the center of the city, without speaking to the journalists who were waiting for him. He entered hand in hand with the first lady, Rosângela Lula da Silva, Janja, and smiling, but looking tired after more than 30 hours of travel, the presidential plane has little flight capacity and therefore had to make three stopovers along the way.
At the hotel, Lula met Dilma again. The president will participate in the inauguration of the PT as head of the New Development Bank (NDB), better known as Banco del Brics, this Thursday (13). Surrounded by reporters and cameras, the former president avoided talking about the financial institution, promising news at the press conference the next day. She praised Shanghai, where she already lives: “It’s a very nice city, with a beautiful landscape, full of trees, flowers.”
Dilma’s inauguration ceremony is not Lula’s only engagement in Shanghai. She even meets with the CEO of tech giant Huawei and separately the CEOs of BYD and CCCC. Both the Brazilian president and Janja will still have to take a new Covid test 24 hours before their meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing.
