The cartoonist paid a vibrant tribute to the former webmaster of the satirical weekly, who passed away last week.
“I say your name, over and over, so that you become one with my body.” The designer Luz paid tribute to <a href="http://www.time.news/former-charlie-hebdo-webmaster-simon-fieschi-dies/" title="Former Charlie Hebdo webmaster Simon Fieschi dies”>Simon Fieschi on Wednesday evening on the set of La Grande Bibliothèque. Charlie Hebdo webmaster, wounded during the attack on January 7, 2015, he died last week at the age of 40.
“Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi. I’m thinking about you. Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, I’m thinking about your fucking energy. Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, I’m thinking about your irony. I’m thinking about Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi Simon Fieschi , Simon Fieschi,” he repeated during the show.
“I think of those you leave and who think of you (…) also of others, among whom I am one. Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, I say your name again, again and again, so that “it becomes one with my body,” he added.
“Life sucks”
“Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, the nice, the tenacious, the thoughtful. Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, I think about what you said, about your fingers that couldn’t do shit anymore. And I I’m telling you Simon Fieschi, fuck for you, we’ll do them again and again.
“I think of this phrase that Albert Einstein would have said. That there would be life after death because energy cannot die. It circulates. It transforms and never stops. I think of your energy, Simon Fieschi, which circulates in me”, he continues.
“(It) circulates within us (It) transforms and never stops,” he repeats. “Like I can’t stop saying Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi. We’ll fucking keep living. Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi, Simon Fieschi.”
Investigation underway
The lifeless body of Simon Fieschi was discovered on Thursday 17 October. The Paris prosecutor’s office said on Saturday that “an investigation into the causes of death” had been opened and that “no hypothesis” could be favored at this stage.
Arriving in July 2012 at Charlie Hebdo where he was webmaster, Simon Fieschi was the first victim of the brothers Chérif and Saïd Kouachi when they entered the editorial offices on 7 January 2015.
Simon Fieschi was hit by a Kalashnikov bullet fired at point blank range by one of the two attackers. He had survived, albeit with serious consequences. Twelve people were killed during this attack, including eight team members or collaborators of the newspaper.
“A great sadness”
Also Catherine Meurisse, former Charlie Hebdo cartoonist paid tribute on Instagram. “The first thing Simon said to me when I visited him in hospital in January 2015, after he came out of a coma, was: ‘I was too lazy to die.’ He was very happy with his formula and I really admired his humor.”
“Being so funny under such circumstances was beautiful enough to cry. We loved him deeply for that. His finesse, his wit. The terrorists’ bullets didn’t miss him; we didn’t miss our friendship,” he added.
Emmanuel Macron praised Simon Fieschi’s struggle on X “to express with courage and humanity the horror of Islamic terrorism”. His passing is “a great sadness for all of us”, a “break that rekindles an intact pain almost a decade later”, continued the head of state.
