Maccabi Haifa vs. Hadera: Another Ass-Kicking Sandwich Filled with Gravel (Game Review)

In a chaotic world like ours, there are very few fixed and objective truths. Death, let’s say, will come for all of us. The sun rises from the east every morning is another example. But it seems that the most permanent, pure and exclusive truth of all is the knowledge that when Maccabi Haifa plays against her roommate in Sami Ofer, she will eat an ass sandwich filled with gravel.

How hard they are, yup. Every time the same ritual repeats, in the first round we give them a tour at the stadium in Netanya, and somehow always, in the second round, they come back to us with new insights. And always, without exception, these insights include a lot of anti-football and knee bombs.

There are coaches in the league who are excited by emotional caresses and smacks from rival coaches, and then come to “play football” in front of her all the way to receive a four-five. Let’s say that with all due respect to Masai Dago, it doesn’t seem to me that messages from him will make Chaim Sylves play openly in Sami Ofer. Leave Assams, even if they put a new Volvo with all the indulgences in the parking lot, Silves and Hadra will come to park a bus in Sammy, from the opening whistle until the end.

This time too, unsurprisingly, Hapoel Hadera came to Sami Ofer with the same approach: laying back ten behind the ball, a careful and measured exit to transitions and, of course, how is it possible without the great addition of a tough game from the creator of the Glazer family.

Tamir Glazer’s behavior on the field and the disregard he gets from referees simply amazes me every time. Even yesterday, during his difficult entrance, my husband Muhammad, Shur did not come and Farid did not whistle. It’s pretty clear that when it comes to other elements of the game, like, say, passing the ball accurately, he has less success. I say this, of course, in my opinion and my opinion only – this player’s style of play has no place on a football field.

In general, all Hadera players played very hard, bordering on wild, and set up a barbed wire barrier at the entrance to the 16th court. Bunker à la Italia in Euro 2000.

Syllabus. Less excited by messages from Dago (Maor Alxalsi) Farid. Not even a yellow card for Glazer’s foul (Maor Alxalsi)

For the avoidance of doubt, I have no claims and complaints against Hadera in the context of the bunker. I wouldn’t have behaved differently in their place, this is the way to reduce quality gaps and we have already seen what happened to those who fall into the Petaim trap and come to “play football” against a much better team. True, it would have been nice if occasionally they would have also combined some attempt at a serious football move between all the fortifications, but that’s it. My main complaint, as mentioned, is about the violent acting, especially Glazer’s.

And what about us? Well, Maccabi Haifa came to this game with all the best intentions, and in an attempt to produce a quick decision. The total lying back and an excellent defensive game by Hadera made it clear that the Ashdod case would not happen again, so it was clear to all of us from the 20th minute, more or less, that we were on our way to the regular and tedious ritual with Raz Zahavi’s mammy.

The first half was very nervous, full of rash decisions, loaded with Levita’s time-wasting and very little football, and just when we managed to produce a small moment of positive football, the half-time whistle interrupted it.

The first quarter of an hour of the second half was the one that made the difference – the whole team matured, played patiently and tried to intelligently look for the breach in Silves’ Mazino line. Little by little, attack after attack, the situations winked more and more, until the bingo – Gedi Kinda in combination with Piero pushes closely, a goal of sweat and tears, and Sami Ofer finally explodes.

From the moment we scored the goal until the end, the level of football dropped dramatically (closely related to the level of illusory fatigue of our dear players), and despite this, Hadera continued to lay back. There is some logic in this, the truth: as long as the game is 0:1, and especially as the minutes tick by, the level of pressure increases for Maccabi Haifa more than for the opponent, in this case Hadera. The higher the pressure, the greater the chance of a random error by a stressed green player and a tie is within the realm of possibility.

Fortunately for us, the level of defensive concentration of Maccabi Haifa yesterday was high enough, and minutes of close game play in nerve-wracking moments kept the fixed result between us and Hadera intact, and returned us to the top of the table after a day’s absence.

Personally, an exceptional game for Shawn Goldberg and Ilai Feingold. In general, the defense easily repelled any thought of an out-of-place outburst by Hadera, and the crazy fight in the last minutes, especially by the injured and bruised Shawn Goldberg, made the difference. As for Feingold? Let’s put it this way: like Halaili, he won’t stay long in Maccabi Haifa. Hope we can enjoy him as much as possible before he moves to a better league.

Feingold. Soon not here (Maor Alxalsi)

Gedi kinda gives numbers, and gives samba on the grass. The automatic dancer, a waiter on skates who surfs and hands out golden gifts. Actually his first half is not amazing in terms of accuracy, but in the second half Killary completely stepped up and brought the blessing.

But, the one who particularly caught my eye yesterday was Lior Kassa – in rather unfortunate circumstances, he got the chance in the center of the field in a complex game against a super physical team, and demonstrated a game full of maturity, responsibility and fighting for every ball. On the way he almost scored a completely crazy goal, but even without this opportunity he had a very good game. His quality is gradually becoming apparent, not always in a straight line and at a linear pace, but you can definitely see on a clear day the footballer that Lior Casa will still be, not long from now.

In general, it was not a bad game of ours, despite the “scratch” and the minimal result. We knew how to prepare mentally and professionally for a difficult game against a team that worked excellent defensively and as mentioned, patience, wisdom and quality were decisive.

Come on. Another mine is unloaded. What did Masai say yesterday? Now a super easy game against Fiorentina in the round of 16 of the conference, what’s that for us, Chips.

Good luck to the bonbons, have a good trip to all the flights, bring us a good result! Remembering that everything is nonsense except football and the redemption of our captive brothers in Gaza, bring them back to us already.

Have a good week.

post Scriptum. This column was written before the publication of the court results. For the avoidance of doubt, any decision that has an impact on the championship race as of today means a declaration of war on the fans as a whole, and not just Maccabi Haifa. The industry is facing a fatal blow at the sporting level.
