Emmanuel Macron was received Thursday at the White House as the best friend of the United States, the representative of their “oldest alliance, which has never been denied”, said President Joe Biden. The anthems, the fifes and the review of the troops gave the State visit its pageantry and its solemnity, in the sunny coldness of the gardens of the White House. “We couldn’t have a better partner at this crucial time”said the American president. “We are honored and moved”replied the French head of state, who had been entitled to the same consideration under Donald Trump four years earlier.
