Madurai: An investigation is underway into the theft of electricity connections to some houses in the Madurai Central Jail Guard Quarters.
Madurai Central Jail has guard quarters; Guard Housing is maintained by the Board. It was found that some residences, including ‘J’ block, were secretly getting electricity and using it.
In this regard, the officials of the jail and power board inquired in person. Of these, four houses were found to be using electricity connection to a public road without permission. 13 thousand rupees were collected as fine from the concerned persons.
Officials said: Some of the policemen who used to live in the residence had secretly got the electricity connection and used it. The guards who settled after their relocation did not know about this. They have continued to use it.
Three paid the fine after trial; Only one did not pay. Confusion persists as to who pays for the public road. They said this.
