by times news cr

In its effort to guarantee equity in the hard yellow corn market, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), in coordination with various state entities and local producers, is carrying out control operations in collection centers in the province of Manabí, the state agency indicated on its website.

These operations, the report indicates, are intended to ensure compliance with the minimum support price established in Ministerial Agreement No. 031, which sets the price of grain at $16.50 per ton, with a moisture content of 13% and a maximum of 1% impurities.

The District Director of the MAG in Manabí, Leopoldo Viteri, highlighted the importance of these controls to guarantee that farmers receive fair payment for their product, considering that Manabí is one of the main corn producing regions in the country.

The operations include verification of the status of the scales through rigorous procedures carried out by officials of the Ecuadorian Standardization Service (INEN), who use standard weights to ensure the precision of the measurements. In addition, the proper use of laboratory equipment such as humidity determiners is supervised, as well as compliance with the minimum support price table.

Hard corn is an essential raw material in the production of balanced feed for poultry and pigs, being an animal protein in high demand in the country. Therefore, ensuring fair and transparent trade is essential for the well-being of farmers and national food security.
